Jim Pena

Born in Chicago, Jim moved with his family to Miami as a child, and he’s been here ever since. It was the creativity of the beauty industry that first attracted him, and he’s been expressing his own creativity through hair and makeup for more than 20 years now.

Though certified in every type of product used by detlev hair studio, Jim possesses a special enthusiasm for hair color—specifically red. “I believe that deep down inside, we all want to be a redhead,” he confides. “It’s a color that everyone can wear. It’s youthful, it’s daring, and different reds can be used to change the whole tonal value of hair. Even red or copper highlights can add a lot of dimension to brunettes.” At the end of the day, Jim says he receives the most personal gratification from making his clients look—and feel—good. “I like to encourage them to push their look a little, explore and branch out.

Renee Barnes

Renee has been in the beauty industry for 17 years—and 15 of those she has spent working with Detlev. The two first met when she was a teenager. “He used to cut my hair when I was 15,” Renee notes. When she finished high school, Detlev took her under his wing professionally. As her mentor, he inspired and encouraged her to attend the prestigious Aveda Institute in Minneapolis. After completing her degree, Renee spent a year and a half working with Van Michael Salon, in Atlanta, before returning home to the Miami area.

Skilled in all areas of styling and hair care, Renee says her passion lies in chemical services, from color and color corrections to hair relaxing. Ask her what she finds to be the most fulfilling aspect of her job, and she will reply without a doubt that it’s the relationships she’s developed with her clients. “They trust me,” she says. “They come in looking one way and leave looking another, and they feel good about themselves. I just really like making women look beautiful.”

Robert Stefano

Robert Stefano has always found himself drawn to creative media. Born and raised in Miami, he boasts a background in musical theater—not only as a actor and singer but also behind the scenes in hair and makeup. Now, 19 years after going professional in the salon business, he sees his chosen career as “a way to connect to people, help them transform, and make them feel good.”

As a stylist, Robert brings equal passion to both cutting and coloring.  He has completed a series of specialty seminars at Vidal Sassoon in London and notes that while Europeans tend to specialize, his own talents are more multifaceted: “I kind of like it all.” Robert has also been employed by BMG, where his fluent language skills (English, Spanish, and French) allowed him to work easily with renowned performers such as Lucia Mendez, Victor Noriega, Alexandre Pires, Gloria Gaynor, and Nicolas Felizola.
